A Day of Healing and Love

Last month Gary Craig asked me if I wanted to gather together a group of ten people to do some surrogate EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) work. He requested I invite people who were already into EFT – not beginners or skeptics, so there wouldn't be any need to explain or defend EFT. By the way, surrogate tapping is when you tap on behalf of someone else, instead of the most common of way tapping for yourself.

After putting word out to my own network, I found a group of interested people that I stayed in contact with about the event. Then I called around to some hotels in the Mendocino area to see about a place for the event However, my friend, Eileen Broderick, offered her home, which is north of the town of Mendocino. We ended up taking her generous offer and wound up meeting in her living room. Saturday, July 14 was the day of the event. Everyone who said that they would show up did. Shoshi Morginn drove all the way from close to the border of Canada, and Donna Bach traveled from Sonora near Yosemite. Everyone brought food to share at lunch (which was delicious). There was a large variety of people in our group of EFTers, including a lawyer, a couple of nurses, a naturopathic doctor, a couple of administrators, a grief counselor, and a life coach. Everyone was on time and there was a sense of excitement in the air before our day of EFTing together began. Outside it was a beautiful foggy day at the coast.

Gary gave some groundwork for what we would be doing. Then, as a group, we started tapping for someone while they were sitting with us in the room. We would begin with saying, "Even though I am (the person's name)". The person who was being worked on would receive the tapping. Gary would lead us in a round or more of tapping and then ask the person who was being worked on what their SUDS level was. Sometimes we wouldn't actually tap, we would imagine all of the tapping points pulsing simultaneously with our own heartbeat. Another method that we used was for a person to walk around outside for 15 minutes while we tapped for them.

After our group session with the first person, Donna Bach, N.M.D., brought in a machine that could tune into the different frequencies of the brain. We were eager to see how the brain waves coordinated with what we were doing with EFT. Donna showed how our alpha and beta brain waves increased as we thought about an emotionally painful situation from the past. As a person had EFT done for them, Donna watched the feedback from the machine, then drew little graphs showing the different patterns.

By the end of the day, not only had a great deal of old emotional trauma been healed, a number of friendships were kindled as well. It was a beautiful experience working together as a group for the benefit of someone. It reminded me of a prayer circle with the added bonus of tapping or sometimes "virtual "tapping. It was a social and spiritual experience for me. Not only that, as Gary Craig might say, "it is portable." It is amazing how miracles can happen when a group of people get together with a common goal. For me, it was a day of healing and love.
